Georgina Harwood prepares for her dive in Gaansbai

This Monday the centenarian took a dip in a shark cage.  Adrenaline loving woman was joined by family members as she encountered the fearsome predators off the coast of Gaansbai, a fishing town on the Western Cape.

Mrs Harwood was lowered into the sea, surrounded by a safety cage, as tour operators throw chunks of meat and fish into the sea to attract sharks. Speaking after the incredible experience, she said, “I’m so glad I did it, a special experience in my life time, I just can’t compare it to anything else.”

Reflecting on her shark-infested swim, Harwood said she felt“sharks are having a hard time in the sea” due to overfishing. “We are taking the Hake. The poor old sharks are coming in to the coast and getting us which is a very sad thing,” she said.

By the way, Harwood went skydiving on her 100th birthday in order to raise funds for life jackets for the National Sea Rescue Institute.
