One of our most exciting discoveries of the current bridal season is
the arrival of the necklace train, an ultra-glamorous jewelry/veil/cape
hybrid that can transform any dress — even the most simple,
stripped-down styles — into a total showstopper. So far, we’ve only
spotted these stunners in
Gibson Bespoke‘s shop, but we wouldn’t be surprised if other bridal lines hop on the bandwagon soon.
Hot Material: Lace
This year’s lace fabrics show a fresh update from their antique
ancestry and are making appearances on dresses in a range of styles,
from modern to boho to vintage-inspired. Lace names and types can
designate both where and how they were made (think Chantilly, Cluny, and
Alençon);
familiarize yourself with
some of the varieties first to discover which ones you like most and
make shopping easier. This trend has also reached far beyond gowns
alone, so if you’d like to incorporate it sparingly, try searching for
lace shrugs,
headbands,
clutches, or even
shoe clips.
Fresh Silhouette: Draped and Relaxed
Effortlessly chic, these silhouettes were created with both style and
comfort in mind. The draped details and lighter fabrics make for
carefree transitions from dinner to the dance floor — and look
absolutely beautiful in the process. If laid-back and lovely is the
vibe you want, but you need a little more support, search for dresses
with a built-in bodice or pair your dress with a structured
undergarment.
On the Rise: Jumpsuits
This modern interpretation of bridal attire is the perfect solution
for a city hall wedding, a jaw-dropping reception look, or even a
dramatic reception exit. Whether paired with an outer garment (how
gorgeous was
Solange Knowles’ cape?), or worn as a stand-alone piece, these modern styles are a welcome alternative to the classic approach.
