Featured Shop: Eynat Klipper

My name is Eynat, and I design swimsuits for fabulous women for my shop, Eynat Klipper. I live in the countryside by the Mediterranean Sea, close to Haifa, Israel.

Designing swimsuits was a natural step for me after I completed my degree in fashion design. My trademark cuts are inspired by old photographs of my mother and her friends from the ’60s and ’70s. I am drawn to the sense of femininity that they exude – it’s both modest and powerful.

When I was first starting out, I used to pound the pavement in Tel Aviv searching for deadstock fabric. Finding pieces of material reminiscent of vintage swim caps or my mom’s old photos was an amazing experience. Those fabrics influenced my entire process, and I aim to recreate the nostalgic effect they had on me. These days, I collaborate with a local knitting factory to manufacture fabric for my swimwear — sometimes the process goes on for months until we get it right.

I started my business over a decade ago, and I’ve always tried to keep it small and intimate. I have encountered many fantastic women through my work: most come back again and again, and some have become personal friends. Having a direct connection with my client is crucial to me – I always try to picture how she will react when she receives the swimsuit, and how she’ll feel when she puts it on.

Etsy allows me to cross local boundaries and reach lots of wonderful women around the world. The thought that women on the other side of the globe are wearing my swimsuits never fails to excite me.

Designing swimsuits requires a personal touch and careful attention to each and every woman, but that’s what makes the process so unique and interesting.
